Guitar4 Vets

“THERE IS CLEAR EVIDENCE THAT PLAYING THE GUITAR HELPS THE HEALING PROCESS FOR VETERANS STRUGGLING WITH PHYSICAL INJURIES, PTSD AND OTHER EMOTIONAL DISTRESS.”
Music helps decrease anxiety, increase selfesteem, and reduce episodes of panic attacks, nightmares and flashbacks. A research study in the USA of Guitars 4 Vets students showed a 21 % improvement in PTSD symptoms and a 27% decrease in related depression symptoms. The study attributed learning and playing guitar as the primary catalysts for these improvements-and we want to ensure as many vets as possible have that opportunity.
More simply, playing a guitar can help veterans safely connect with their surroundings and other people.

Veterans shouldn’t have to face the challenges of PTSD in silence or alone.
Through the teamwork and camaraderie of Guitars for Vets, they can join a community where they learn to play guitar and find solace in the songs they love as well as the songs they have yet to write.

Can’t play a guitar but always wanted to learn. Served at least one day in military service? Have an on-going mental wellbeing diagnosis? This programme is for you. We will give you an acoustic practice guitar free for the duration of the programme. We will give you twenty-four free professional lessons in a group of fellow veterans. If you complete the programme, we will give you a brand new acoustic guitar to take away and continue your musical journey. The aid to your mental wellbeing will be with you, in the corner of the room, ready to ease your mind as and when you need it, not tomorrow or on the end of a telephone.
